Model Overview

The XPENG G6 is the maiden strategic model built on XPENG's SEPA 2.0 Fuyao architecture, positioned as an all-electric mid-size coupe SUV. Officially launched in June 2023, the model quickly became a sales pillar for the brand on the back of the comprehensive technological strengths delivered by the SEPA 2.0 architecture. On 13 March 2025, the 2025 XPENG G6 received a mid-cycle facelift across three variants, priced between RM176,800 and RM198,800, bringing headline technologies such as 800V ultra-fast charging and AI vision-based intelligent driving into the sub-RM200,000 price bracket. The body measures 4,758 mm in length, 1,920 mm in width, and 1,650 mm in height, with a 2,890 mm wheelbase. Configured as a 5-door, 5-seater throughout the range, it is marketed as an "AI Intelligent Class-Transcending SUV", taking on key rivals such as the Tesla Model Y, Leapmotor C11, and Onvo L60.

Design Language

The 2025 XPENG G6 continues the marque's "Tech Flowing Aesthetics" design philosophy. Up front, a 1,942 mm seamless full-width Galaxy light strip is flanked by split LED headlight clusters, whilst the brand emblem has migrated from within the light bar onto the bonnet. Paired with a closed-off grille and distinctive blue AI intelligent driving indicator lamps, both tech appeal and road recognition are enhanced. Along the flanks, a subtle vanishing shoulder line combines with a fastback roofline and frameless doors to create a sleek, dynamic coupe silhouette. At the rear, an integrated ducktail spoiler and redesigned bumper apron replace the previous active electric spoiler, reinforcing its sporty stance. Six exterior paint options are available, including Twilight Purple, Shell Beige, and Midnight Black, alongside a Dark Knight all-black styling package.

Inside, the cabin adopts a minimalist wraparound architecture, featuring a 10.25-inch fully digital instrument cluster, a 15.6-inch floating central infotainment screen, and a 9-inch digital rear-view mirror as standard, with three-screen synergy markedly improving driving information access. The cabin introduces low-saturation upholstery hues such as Fuyao Green and Deep Space Grey, complemented by a Microfibre suede headliner and dynamic Galaxy ambient lighting to craft a premium, high-tech ambience. The seats are upholstered in newly designed Cloud-Feel perforated leather, offering front seat ventilation, heating, and massage functions as standard (massage is newly added for the 2025 model), whilst the rear seatbacks gain an 11.4° recline adjustment and seat heating for enhanced long-distance journey comfort. Packaging is equally impressive with an 85.6% cabin space utilisation rate, providing up to 1,035 mm of rear legroom alongside a 647-litre boot that expands to 1,752 litres with the rear seats folded.

Powertrain and Performance

Underpinned by a full-domain 800V high-voltage SiC (silicon carbide) platform, the 2025 XPENG G6 is powered by a rear-mounted permanent magnet synchronous electric motor producing 218 kW (296 PS) and 450 Nm of torque in a rear-wheel-drive setup, achieving an official 0–100 km/h acceleration time of 6.4 seconds and a top speed of 202 km/h. The model offers CLTC driving ranges of 625 km and 725 km, with an energy consumption figure as low as 12.5 kWh/100 km. Notably, in March 2026, XPENG officially introduced the G6 Super Range Extender version, combining a 55.8 kWh LFP battery pack with a 60-litre fuel tank to achieve a combined CLTC range of 1,704 km and a pure electric range of 430 km, whilst having earlier upgraded the Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) external power output to 6 kW, further catering to long-distance touring and outdoor lifestyle needs.

Chassis and Handling

On the chassis front, the XPENG G6 features a high-specification front double-wishbone and rear five-link independent suspension layout, with the front suspension control arms fashioned entirely from aluminium alloy to effectively lower unsprung mass. The vehicle is equipped with the Taiji AI intelligent chassis system co-developed with a leading German engineering consultancy, integrating CDC continuous damping control shock absorbers with a Taiji hydraulic bushing matrix—the former adjusting damping force in milliseconds and the latter absorbing high-frequency road vibrations, working alongside intelligent suspension stiffness management to enhance overall road adaptability. In terms of structural rigidity, the G6 is the only domestic model to adopt front and rear integrated die-cast aluminium body structures alongside Cell-to-Body (CIB) integration, achieving a torsional rigidity of 41,600 Nm/deg and an 82 km/h moose test speed, providing a solid structural base for precise handling. The 2025 G6 has also received further NVH revisions, incorporating Hydraulic Rebound Stops (HRS) to enhance road-holding composure and bump absorption over undulating tarmac.

Cabin and Equipment

Cabin intelligence on the XPENG G6 has taken a comprehensive leap forward. The entire 2025 lineup comes standard with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8295 automotive cockpit chip, offering a significant performance boost over the previous 8155 processor to seamlessly power the 15.6-inch floating central touchscreen and the new capacitive steering wheel. The infotainment system runs Xmart OS, featuring full-scenario intelligent voice commands with swift response times. In terms of comfort equipment, standard kit across the range includes 50W wireless smartphone fast charging, dual-zone automatic climate control, a panoramic glass roof (with 99.9% UV protection), and 6 kW V2L external power supply, with mid-to-high trim variants adding steering wheel heating, rear seat heating, and front seat ventilation with massage. Furthermore, the 2025 model year enhances boot versatility across all variants, expanding up to a cavernous 1,752 litres.

Safety and Intelligent Driving

Safety-wise, the XPENG G6 is engineered to meet the triple safety criteria of C-NCAP 2024, Euro NCAP 2023, and CIASI standards, featuring a high-strength steel-aluminium hybrid body structure and CIB battery-body integration, with the outer side sills utilising 1,500 MPa ultra-wide hot-stamped steel to withstand up to 80 tonnes of side-pole impact force. The battery pack achieves an IP68 dust- and water-resistance rating, showing zero water ingress after 48 hours of submersion to offer rigorous protection for the high-voltage electrical architecture. In addition, 13 active safety systems come standard, employing multi-sensor fusion perception to monitor surround hazards and intervene proactively.

In terms of autonomous driving, the 2025 XPENG G6 comes standard with the Turing AI vision-only intelligent driving solution, replacing the front bumper-mounted LiDARs with a sensor suite comprising 11 cameras, 12 ultrasonic sensors, and 3 millimetre-wave radars, driven by dual NVIDIA DRIVE Orin-X chips delivering 508 TOPS of processing power. The system supports Highway NGP, City NGP, AI Valet Driver, and automated/remote parking functions without relying on high-definition (HD) maps, enabling seamless "parking spot to parking spot" intelligent driving across major highways and urban roads. Distinctive blue indicator lamps are positioned on the wing mirrors, illuminating when intelligent driving mode is engaged to alert fellow motorists.

Market Performance and Reception

The XPENG G6 enjoyed a stellar initial market run, logging over 8,000 monthly deliveries for three consecutive months between September and November 2023, and closing out 2025 with cumulative sales of approximately 48,000 units. Following the launch of the facelifted model in March 2025 with an entry price lowered to RM176,800, non-refundable bookings breached the 5,000-unit mark within just seven minutes, showcasing strong early interest. However, that momentum proved difficult to sustain: starting from January 2026, retail volume tumbled from 3,609 units in December 2025 to just 967 units in February, slipping outside the top 200 SUV sales chart and contributing to less than 10% of XPENG's total brand volume. Several factors contributed to this contraction: the deletion of the 725 km long-range variant on the 2026 pure EV lineup, coupled with range-restructuring ahead of the range-extender version, led prospective buyers to adopt a wait-and-see stance; concurrently, segment rivals like the Leapmotor C11, Onvo L60, and Tesla Model Y aggressively cut prices and added spec, rapidly eroding the G6's unique selling points in 800V fast-charging and smart driving tech. Additionally, its rounded egg-like silhouette drew mixed reactions, with critics poking fun at its "computer mouse" look, creating a hurdle to broader mainstream appeal. Whether the subsequent Super Range Extender variant, backed by its "large battery + 800V" value proposition, can turn the tide remains to be seen.

Overall, as the pioneering model on the SEPA 2.0 Fuyao architecture, the XPENG G6 establishes a well-rounded product foundation anchored by an 800V high-voltage platform, 5C fast-charging AI battery, Turing AI intelligent driving, and a double-wishbone/five-link suspension setup. However, polarising styling and tactical marketing missteps have constrained it from fully capitalising on its engineering strengths, highlighting the real-world disconnect between technological idealism and tough consumer realities.
